Parents/caregivers, teachers, and students meet formally twice each year to discuss progress and set individual goals for improved learning. Two comprehensive written reports are sent home each year. Dates of reporting are as follows:

| Term 2 | First written report sent home at end of term. |
| Term 3 | Second parent, teacher, child interview early in term 3. |
| Term 4 | Final written report sent home at end of term. |
Matahui Road School maintains an open-door policy where parents/caregivers are welcome to come in and discuss their child's progress with the classroom teacher at any time during the year. Low classroom numbers enable teachers to be in regular contact with families throughout the year.
